The organising committee of the Singapore British Parliamentary Debat Championships is proud to announce the adjudication core of the 2013 edition of the tournament.
We have brought together some of the most accomplished judges and varsity debaters in the British Parliamentary format to help us discover the best British Parliamentary school debate teams in Singapore.
Robin Teo
2 times SDO champion, 2 times SMU Hammers Champion, WUPID champion 2010, Asian champion 2011, Australs Grand finalist 2011 and top 10 speaker, Worlds Quarter-finalist 2011 and Worlds Octo-finalist 2013, and winner of multiple tournaments in the region including the Asian British Parliamentary Debate Championships in 2010
3rd placed team and 3rd best speaker of the tournament at Singapore Secondary Schools Debating Championships
Adjudication Core of Malaysian Debate Open 2013 and CA of International Christian University Tournament 2012
Xiao Hongyu
Is currently a law student at NUS, with one year left to go before graduation. He has extensive debating and judging experience. In the past year, he was the champion of the Asian British Parliamentary 2012 the most prestigious British Parliamentary Debate tournament in all of Asia, and was also the finalist at the United Asian Debate Championships 2013. He was a breaking judge at the World University Debate Championship. He was also on the finals panel of the Edmonton Open (Canada) as well as the Canadian Nationals.

Xiao Hongyu
Is currently a law student at NUS, with one year left to go before graduation. He has extensive debating and judging experience. In the past year, he was the champion of the Asian British Parliamentary 2012 the most prestigious British Parliamentary Debate tournament in all of Asia, and was also the finalist at the United Asian Debate Championships 2013. He was a breaking judge at the World University Debate Championship. He was also on the finals panel of the Edmonton Open (Canada) as well as the Canadian Nationals.
Works with internal and external stakeholders on public policy issues affecting Google, with a focus on youth literacy issues for the APAC region. In 2012, she was appointed Vice Chair of the Asia Internet Coalition, an industry association made up of eBay, Facebook, Google, Skype and Yahoo! which focuses on Internet policy issues in the Asia Pacific region.
As a university debater, Deborah represented both Singapore and NUS at various competitions in South Africa, Australia and the region. Some of her achievements include being part of the Champion Team for the 2002 ASEAN Environmental Debates in Thailand, a Semi-Finalist at the 2004 Trinity College Dublin Inter-Varsity Debating Tournament in Ireland, and a Grand Finals adjudicator at the 2004 Australasian Debating Championships in Australia
Lucas Li
Hailing from both Brown University and the University of Cambridge, Lucas has thirteen years of debate experience: as a coach, debater and adjudicator; across Asia, the UK and USA; and in both the Schools and the Universities circuit.
During his final year of competitive debating, Lucas made the Semi-finals of the Oxford IV and SMU BP IV, the Grand Finals of the Singapore Debate Open, Imperial Open, NALSAR IV and WUPID, and won the Warwick IV, MMU IV and SMU Hammers.
Lucas is also a familiar face on the adjudication and convening front. Having broken to the Open Semi-finals of the LSE Open and UCL IV, Lucas then went on to serve on the Chief Adjudication Panel of a slew of tournaments, including: SMU Hammers, NTU Pro-Ams, NTU Dorothy Cheung Debating Championships and even the previous incarnation of the Singapore British Parliamentary. In this regard he is also famous for making tournaments traditionally late by four hours, run ahead by two.
Lucas is presently serving out his bond as a public servant. In his spare time, he holds office as Director of the Debate Development Initiative for Debate Association (Singapore), a programme to provide exposure and quality training to individuals from less-exposed and privileged debating societies across Singapore.
